How Can we get Gokyo Valley?

There are two ways of getting to Gokyo Valley. The most common and popular way of getting Gokyo Valley is Gokyo Valley Trek. This trek begins from Lukla after a short flight from Kathmandu. Then the trail takes us into Sagarmatha National Park where we can enjoy diverse species of flora and fauna. Passing through Namche and Everest View Hotel, we get to Dole and Machhermo and finally the most spectacular Gokyo Valley.

We have another option to getting Gokyo Valley is Helicopter Tour. You can take helicopter from Kathmandu for Gokyo Valley. This Helicopter tour to Gokyo Valley is for those who want to escape Gokyo Valley Trek. 6-7 people can share one helicopter. If you book a helicopter for Gokyo Valley, you will also see Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar and entire Everest mountain panorama since these destinations are closer each other.

How high is Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Lake and Gokyo ri?

Since Gokyo Lake is situated in Gokyo Valley, they both have same elevation that is 4700m high above the sea level. Gokyo Valley and Gokyo Lake elevation range from 1300m ( Kathmandu), 2652m (Lukla) and 4700m ( Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Valley). From Lukla, you have to ascend more 2048m.

Gokyo ri is located at an elevation of 5360 m above the sea level. From Gokyo Valley, we spend 3-4 hours to the apex of Gokyo ri which unveils incredible mountain panorama including Mt. Everest.

How far is Gokyo Valley from Lukla?

If you go day wise, it takes 6 days to get Gokyo Valley from Lukla including a day acclimatization at Namche. Every day, we have to work for 6 hours in average. If you go with distance you cover from Lukla to Gokyo, it is 29.9 km. You are going to divide this distance in 6 days.

How big is Gokyo Lake?

Gokyo lake is freshwater natural lake situated in Gokyo Valley . There are not only Gokyo Lake in the valley, but other six majestic lakes. The main and popular lake Gokyo occupies 106 acres of Land of Gokyo Valley. The entire  Gokyo lake system of 19 lakes is spread over an area of 485 acres from the elevation 4700- 5100m. People will marvel at seeing these serene lake systems located at the highest elevation of the world.

What are the mountain peaks that can be seen from Gokyo ri?

The mountain summits that can be seen from Gokyo ri are Makalu, Loa Tse, Nupse, Pumori and Mt. Everest. Besides, numerous alluring snow-fed mountain summits are visible from Gokyo ri. People who have been at the top ofGokyo ri say that there in no spot like Gokyo ri to see stupendous mountain peaks in Everest region.

Do we use Lukla airport to go Gokyo Valley?

Yes, you are going to use Lukla airport if you are choosing a flight for Gokyo Valley Trek. Optionally, you can begin your trek from Salleri. You get Jeep ride to Salleri from Kathmandu to escape Lukla Flight. Lukla flights are interrupted by bad weather condition.

Gokyo Valley Trek Itnerary- 11 days

Day 01 - Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding (2652m/8699ft (Walking Distance: 8 KM) Duration: 3 hours

Day 02 - Trek from Phakding to Namche [3,440m/11,280ft] that takes 6 and a half hours. Teahouse overnight

Day 03 - Acclimatization Day - Hike to Everest View Hotel (Walking Distance: 3-4 KM) Duration: 3-4 Hours

Day 04 - Namche to Dole (4200m/13776ft) Duration: 5 hrsDay 05 - Dole to Machhermo (4400m/14432ft) Duration: 5 hrs

Day 06 - Machhermo to Gokyo Lake (4700m/15416ft) Duration: 4 hrs

Day 07 - Hike to Gokyo RI (5360m/17880ft) Duration: 4 hrs

Day 08 - Trek back to Machhermo (4400m/14432ft) Duration: 8 hrs

Day 09- Trek back to Namche

Day 10- Trek back to Lukla (2800m/9184ft) Duration: 7 hours

Day 11 - Fly back to Kathmandu
