Mardi Himal Trekking is a customized Mardi Himal Trekking in Annapurna region in Nepal. This trekking itinerary is specially designed with proper acclimatization and with plenty of time to explore the region at fullest.
Mardi Himal Trekking takes you to the lap of Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre ( Fishtail) and offers you the most stunning views of mountain panorama in Annapurna region. Machhpuchhre ( Fishtail) is just above your head appealing you to capture its magnificence as much as you want.
Mardi Himal Trekking begins from Pokhara after our short flight or 7-8 hours drive and ends at the same place. The trail from Kande takes you all the way up to Australian Camp, then to Pothana. Then, gradually, we get to Low Camp, High Camp and then finally to Mardi Himal Base Camp.
On backtracking, we follow the different trail to Lumle and then to Pokhara.
Getting to the trailhead
From Pokhara, we get a drive for 2 hours to the place named Kande and we begin our hiking to Australian Camp.
Since, Mardi Himal Trekking is a newly discovered trekking trail in Nepal and getting its popularity among the trekkers, no modern luxurious accommodation is available on the trail. We get very basic accommodation during the trekking. Normally, we get twin sharing accommodation with sharing toilet. The toilet is normally outside. It is hard to get attached bathroom. Dining is made warm with an over at the centre. We are offered blankets to warm our body but sometimes it is not enough so we recommend you to bring your own sleeping bag.
Nepali dishes very popular during this trek. Dal Bhat is common in this trek. However, we can see western food items on the menu. You will pick up the dish you like and make order. The single item of meal normally costs between 5-8 USD.
Best Season to Travel
Autumn ( Sept-Nov) and Spring ( March-April) are two best seasons for Mardi Himal Trekking. During Autumn, the weather is pleasant, the visibility is astonishing, mountain peaks are just alluring and unbelievable. And during Spring, the entire hills are blanketed with flowering rhododendron and other flowering vegetations and mountain peaks also are breathtaking. Spring is relatively hotter than Autumn but not too hot.
Physical Fitness and Experience
Mardi Himal Trekking is a moderate trekking trail in Annapurna region in Nepal. We do not necessarily require prior trekking experience for Mardi Himal Trekking. However, prior trekking or short hiking experience will be an asset. Normally, who has good physical fitness and can walk 5-7 hours in the mountain can do this trekking.
Day 1: Day 01- Drive to Kande and Trek to Pothana ( 1925m, 4-5 hours trekking)
Day 2: Day 02- Trek to Forest Camp ( 2600m, 5-6 hours trekking)
Day 3: Day 03- Trek to Middle Camp (3150m, 6-7 hours trekking)
Day 4: Day04- Trke to High Camp ( 3780m, 4 hours trekking)
Day 5: Day 05 – Trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp ( 4500m, 5-6 hours trekking)
Day 6: Day06- Trek to Sidding ( 6hrs, 1700m)
Day 7: Day 07 – Trek to Lumle and Drive to Pokhara ( 3 hrs walk and 2 hrs drive)
Day 01- Drive to Kande and Trek to Pothana ( 1925m, 4-5 hours trekking)
We first take about two hours drive from Pokhara to the place named Kande. Then we trek all the way up till we get Asutralian Camp. Australian Camp is a popular vantage point to view amazing sunrise and mountain peaks include Annapurna, Himchuli and Machhapuchhre. From Australian Camp, we further trek to Pothana, another vantage point and beautiful village at the lap of alluring mountain peaks. Overnight at guesthouse at Pothana.
Day 02- Trek to Forest Camp ( 2600m, 5-6 hours trekking)
Leaving Pothana, we walk up to Deurali. And we begin to trek via dense oak, hemlock and rhododendron. This is absolutely a pleasant walk. We finally get to Forest Camp also known as Kakar in local area. We have very basic accommodation and dining at Kakar. Overnight at Forest Camp at Kakar.
Day 03- Trek to Middle Camp (3150m, 6-7 hours trekking)
We say good bye to Forest Camp and head to Forest Camp. Still, deep rhododendron is dominant in today’s trekking. We massively enjoy our walk with some changes like vegetations, climate and the people. We have very few lodges and guesthouse s at Middle camp in which we have to accommodate. Again, the accommodation will be very basic. Magnificent Mountain views include Annapurna South, Hiuchuli, Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre and Mardi Himal itself are prominent from middle camp.
Day04- Trke to High Camp ( 3780m, 4 hours trekking)
The trail today takes us to the ridge of Mardi Himal with a new experience. Annapurna south and Himchuli are dominant during today’s trekking. We also can see Danfe, Pheasant , the national bird of Nepal in today’s trekking. Relatively, the lodges are better than at low and middle camp. Overnight at high camp.
Day 05 – Trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp ( 4500m, 5-6 hours trekking)
We rise early for sunrise and mountain views. Then we have our breakfast. After our breakfast, we begin our trekking to Mardi Himal Base Camp. The trail today is relatively steeper but not really challenging. You are at the same time connected to Annapurna Sanctuary. We observe yaks, sheep, goats and pheasant. It is beautiful walk in the lap of Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre/Fishtail. Himchuli and Fishtail are absolutely alluring in today’s walk to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Overnight at Mardi Himal Base Camp.
Day06- Trek to Sidding ( 6hrs, 1700m)
We choose different trail while trekking down. It is the same way back till we get Low Camp and the trail divides and takes us to Sidding village. It is a beautiful traditional village. Sidding village is also famous for homestay. We can share the same kitchen to have Nepali dish, Daal Bhat. Overnight at Sidding.
Day 07 – Trek to Lumle and Drive to Pokhara ( 3 hrs walk and 2 hrs drive)
We trek via Gurung and Brahmin villages experiencing traditional country life. Finally we get to Lumle and get a drive to Pokhara. It is 2 hrs drive from Lumle to Pokhara. Overnight at Pokhara.
