Manaslu Trekking - 17 days

Trip Overview

Manaslu Trekking is a restricted and remote area trekking in Nepal. Less populated and less beaten path of Manaslu region will be an astounding experience for the trekker. Actually, Nepal Manaslu Trekking is getting its popularity these days since the trekkers prefer less beaten and less crowded area trekking.

Manaslu Trekking can be an alternative to other adventurous trekking trails which are massively crowded these days.

Manaslu Trekking is located at the border between Nepal and Tibet. So, we not only have the insights of Nepal but also massively about Tibet.

The wild and harmonious nature, sacred monasteries, ethnic groups and their culture, prayer flags, stone inscriptions and astounding mountain views including Mt. Manaslu, which is  the eighth highest mountain in the world at 8,163 meters (26,781 ft) above sea level are prominent highlights of Nepal Manaslu Trekking.

Major Highlights of Manaslu Trekking

  • A scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sotikhola
  • Thrilling Wilderness and Exotic Landscapes
  • The remostest setting with alluring mountain peaks
  • Tibetan Lifestyle and Culture
  • Adventure of Crossing Larkya La Pass, 5106 m, one of the highest passes in the world

Is  Manaslu Trekking an adventurous and restricted area trekking? Required Permits

Yes. It is a restricted area and adventurous trekking. We have to pass one of the highest passes in the world which is the Larkya La at an elevation of 5,106 metres (16,752 ft). For  Manaslu Trekking, an individual trekker has to obtain a special trekking permit.

What is the highest point of  Manaslu Trekking?

Larkya La Pass, one of the highest passes in the world is the highest point in this trekking,  the Larkya La at an elevation of 5,106 metres (16,752 ft). This is also a popular vantage point.

How will be the food and accommodation like during Manaslu Trekking?

Except Kathmandu, food and accommodation will be very normal and basic. This accommodation is called Teahouse accommodation. Toilets are normally outside. Rooms are neat and clean. But for one night at Dharmasal, we may feel inconvenient. So for this, we recommend you to bring your own sleeping bag.

Food will be organic mountain food items. Mostly, all the ingredients are grown locally. Bread and Nepali dishes are popular in this region. One item of food costs between $ 4-10.

Manasalu Trekking Transportation

We drive 126 km (80 miles) from Kathmandu to Soti Khola. The country road is challenging. However, we experience true rural lifestyle of the people. This drive is almost for more than 7 6 hours. This trek ends at Dharapani and we again have to drive back to Kathmandu either by private jeep or public bus. We can not use this road during summer because heav rainfall and landslides.

Manaslu Trekking Best Time of the Year

The best time for Manasalu Trekking is between September to mid of the Nov. During summer (June- July- August) , it is really hard to travel because the country road is totally destroyed by rain.

Getting to the trailhead and away

We drive from Kathmandu to Arughat or Sotikhola which is the commencing point of Manaslu Trekking and the ending point is Dharapani. Sotikhola and Dharapni is both connected by road. From Kathmandu to Soti Khola, the total distance is 126 km.

Best Time to Travel

Autumn (Sept. to Nov.) and spring (March to May) are the best time for Trekking. The weather is delightful and pleasant during autumn. The mountain views are astonishing.

The hills are wrapped with beautiful flowering rhododendron during spring. Also majority of the trekkers find Spring best time for Manaslu  Trekking since they love to see flowering rhododendron.

Winter( Dec-Feb) will be very harsh due to cold and cloudy weather which hide the mountain peaks.

Summer will be too hot for some trekkers. Heavy rainfall occurs and disturbs the transportation and even walk in the mountain.

Physical Condition and Experience

Those who can walk 4-7 hours in the mountain can do this trek.  ManasluTrekking  is a challenging  trek in Manaslu  Region Trekking in Nepal . Regular exercise, jogging and short hiking enhance your stamina and confidence.  Prior trekking experience and technical skills are recommended for Manaslu  Trekking. These prior skills will be an asset for it.

Threats and Safety

We do not really face such terrible threats during this trekking. However,  in few cases, we have to experience some slippery and steep trail.  When we head to cross Larkya La Pass, this part of trail is a bit challenging and slippery too. Frozen ice is sometimes a great threat to us. For this, you need to have treking poles and proper trekking or hiking boots. We do not face any glaciers and avalenches in Manaslu Trekking. . Otherwise,  we will clebrate beautiful and pleasant and adventurous trek in the lap of mighty mountains.

There are few cases the trekkers suffered from altitude sickness. It may be because dehydration and lack of stamina. Sometimes, we have the problem of  food poison too. Report it to you trekking leader or guide if you have any health inconveniences. You will immediately be rescued. Drink plenty of hot drinks and do not smoke in the higher elevation. Have balanced diet and have sound sleep.
